How each night works

  1. Read

Read the night's short story aloud together.

  2. Try a tradition

Each night suggests a simple family tradition idea.

  3. Color

Little ones color the Little Hands page, older kids and grown-ups the Big Hands page, or both.

  4. Light a window

Color that night's window on the Juniper Lane tracker. When all 25 glow, it's Christmas morning.

Then jot down what you did in the This year we… box, so the book becomes a keepsake of your own family's December.

Meet the family on Juniper Lane

The story follows Mom, Dad, Wren (8), Pip (5) and Biscuit the cat as they get ready for Christmas in their four-window cottage at the end of Juniper Lane. The family and their village are fictional. The Meet the Family page has a box where your kids can draw your own family too.

Along the way: the boxes come down, a trip to the snowy tree farm, trimming the tree, letters to the North Pole, the first big snow, a gingerbread cottage, cocoa by the fire, a popcorn garland, skating on the pond, caroling with lanterns, a blanket fort movie night, treats for the birds, a kitchen dance party, Christmas Eve and, at last, Christmas morning. All 25 scenes are shown in the gallery above.

Who it's for

Families with kids of different ages, Advent and December evenings, a gentle bedtime routine, and grown-ups who want to color along.

Printing tips

  • Print single-sided at Actual size or Fit to page. Print the tracker first.
  • Landscape scenes are rotated to fill a portrait page.
  • Smooth 65–110 lb cardstock is great for markers; regular copy paper works well for crayons and colored pencils.
  • Print extra copies of the coloring pages so every child gets their own.

A note for grown-ups

Some tradition ideas involve the kitchen, needles and thread, scissors, snow play or a walk after dark. Please supervise children and adapt the ideas to your family.

How these pages were made

We create our illustrations with AI image-generation tools from our own prompts and creative direction. Then we choose each scene, clean it up into crisp black-and-white line art, and lay out and check every page. The cover art was also made with AI tools, and the story text was drafted with AI writing assistance and reviewed by us.
